I can’t believe the next Momma Quail Pattern is ready to go! I had a ton of fun with this one – I call it the Smuggler Vest :) My son loves “smuggling” things in his pockets – I can’t believe all the things I’ve found in my washing machine!
There are pocketspocketspockets in this thing! There are two large cargo pockets, one small upper pocket, a hidden zipper pocket, and a circular pocket!
The zippers are much easier than you might think. They both have zipper shields which give them a nice finish.
The vest is fully lined. I lay in bed at night and think about ways to finish garments cleanly (that’s not weird, is it?)! For this one, you end up with a small gap in the side seam of the lining to sew closed so all the topstitching is optional (but I highly recommend it for longevity!) and the hem looks neat.
My actual inspiration for the Smuggler is Han Solo (are you surprised? Really?) and his iconic outfit. In fact, you’ll be able to see more about that next week when I compete on Top Stitchers again – ooo spoilers ;)
This pattern works for so many different kinds of vests!
We saw lots of fishing vests in testing – my family doesn’t fish, so I never even thought about it, but it turned out perfect. I was actually walking into a store the other day and passed a Harley Davidson – I realized the guy sitting on it was wearing a vest and the closer I looked the more I was like “Hey! That’s my vest!!” It would totally work for a little biker vest, too!
It’s so fun when you match prints and solids.
And I love how great it looks on the older boys – they can be so hard to sew for but they all ended up loving their vests!
The pattern is on sale this week (until 6/15/15) for 30% off the regular price. You can grab it from Craftsy or Etsy (use the coupon code “JUNESMUGGLER”). I can’t wait to share my own version next week!
