Let’s Go to the Movies!

Project Run & Play Week Two

This is absolutely the week I’m most excited for! Let’s see if you can guess what movie I went for:

"Men in masks cannot be trusted."

“People in masks cannot be trusted.”

Got it? How about this:

"Do we have to hear the kissing part?"

“Do we have to hear the kissing part?”

Princess Bride it is! I watched that movie every.chance.I.got growing up, especially at slumber parties. I can still quote the whole thing. Drives Andy crazy when I watch it now! And it will probably drive you crazy cause I’m going to use every quote that’s even slightly relevant. It runs in the family. My uncle (he’s got a page on Wikipedia where he looks very serious and official) has officiated at all the weddings of me and my cousins. At every rehearsal he starts off “Mawwige. Mawwige is what bwings us togefer today. That bwessed awwangement. That dweam wifin a dweam.” Inconceivable!

“Masks. I think everyone will be wearing them in the future.”

You can’t have the Princess Bride without the Dread Pirate Roberts!

"The Battle of Wits has begun."

“The Battle of Wits has begun.”

The sweater is the Charlie hoodie in a knit from Fabric.com. It’s almost the exact color as Buttercup’s absurd head-to-toe red riding outfit. At the beginning of the movie, Peter Falk Colombo comes to read a book to his sick grandson. They get to the part where Wesley is killed by the Dread Pirate Roberts and the boy interrupts with “Murdered by pirates is good.” I think that phrase sums up little boys better than anything!

"Wait. Wait. What is this? Are you trying to trick me? Is this a kissing book?"

“Wait. Wait. What is this? Are you trying to trick me? Is this a kissing book?”

The shirt started as the Prepster Pullover. I left off the collar and added a facing to the front for the cutout. The sleeves have a rib knit cuff to make them blousier. I used a stretch twill from Hobby Lobby for both the shirts and pants.

"Ever heard of Plato? Aristotle? Socrates? Morons."

“Ever heard of Plato? Aristotle? Socrates? Morons.”

"You're trying to kidnap what I've rightfully stolen."

“You’re trying to kidnap what I’ve rightfully stolen.”

The pants are (surprise!) Small Fry Skinnies. I topstitched in green to add a little bit of color. Solid black was just a bit too overwhelming for a 2.5 year old!

"Never go against a Sicilian when death is on the line! Ahhahahahaha!"

“Never go against a Sicilian when death is on the line! Ahhahahahaha!”

I had a little fun with the pockets, since they are pirate pants.

“Nobody would surrender to the Dread Pirate Wesley.”

And inside the front pockets, a little pirate surprise:

The shrieking eels!

The shrieking eels!

For the mask, I used this template but used two layers of knit. The little “do-rag” is a scrap of knit.

“You hippopotamic landmass!”

He thought he was Batman.

And now I’m just going to load you up with pics and quotes :)

"Yes, you're very smart. Shut up."

“Yes, you’re very smart. Shut up.”

"Anybody want a peanut?"

“Anybody want a peanut?”

To the Cliffs of Insanity!

To the Cliffs of Insanity!

“Do you, by any chance, have six fingers on your right hand?”

"Have fun storming the castle, boys!"

“Have fun storming the castle, boys!”

“Goodnight Wesley. Sleep well. I’ll most likely kill you in the morning.”

Love it, love it, love it!!! The Princess Bride is one of my favorites! I just couldn’t do Buttercup with the fabric I had in my stash….and I’m really trying to use it through the contest. Otherwise, I totally would have have! Excellent choice :)
